Jersey Wedding Venues – Gorey Castle (Mont Orgueil Castle)

All the romantic nooks, secret places, breathtaking art and architecture and of course all the stories told on every step…. Chateaux, Castles, monasteries (or any historical buildings really) full of charm, mystery and romance are hands down one of my favourite things. I am utterly in love with any building that falls into this category. I love to wander around, soaking up the atmosphere and explore. It just really fuels my imagination and inspiration.

If we are going on holiday or even just doing a little trip, you can bet that visiting a few chateaux is right at the top of our holiday to do list. Places like Loir valley or Czech republic leave me literally  swooning and clapping my hands with excitement, with some real beauties like Channencau, Chambord, Cesky Krumlov and Karlstejn to name a few.

So if you are also charmed by this kind of romance and beauty, and perhaps dreaming about a small and intimate wedding in a beautiful castle with a gorgeous outdoor space, this is definitely the one place for you in Jersey, Channel Islands.

Mont Orgueil (also know as Gorey castle)

This place is one of the dreamiest places in Jersey  –  and it will most certainly be a memorable place which sets the perfect scene and mood for your intimate wedding. Over looking the sea, with views of the french coast and the cutest little harbour of Gorey.

You can sip on chilled champagne right at the top of the castle battlements with your wedding guests, whilst you enjoy the view, gentle breeze and lulling of the ocean.

As for some of the basic facts for you. The castle is located on the East coast of Jersey, and was built to protect against French invasion, over 800 years ago. It is also one of the best-preserved castles in Britain.

– striking backdrops for your wedding

– breathtaking views over the east coast, the sea and France

– various backdrops for your wedding photos

– various indoor and outdoor options for your ceremony (Medieval Great Hall – civil ceremonies; religious ceremonies can be held inside the Chapel of St George or at an outside altar at the heart of the castle)

– various locations for your reception drinks (the de Carteret, Garden, the Middle Ward or the Grand Battery)

– knight fighting reenactment and entertainment available (including firing of the cannon)

– wedding receptions can be held in a marquee in the lower castle or in a choice of rooms inside the castle.

The only disadvantage is that to reach the top of battlements (where the medieval great hall is) there are many steps, and therefore not very easy to access for elderly or disabled people
